The Trans-Atlantic Finance Institute (TAFI) has been established to promote and stimulate academic research in the area of international finance and to encourage interaction between the scholarly communities in Europe and the United States. The aim of TAFI is to provide a platform for leading researchers from both sides of the Atlantic in order to study, discuss, and cooperate on topics in the field of international finance. TAFI supports research on a wide variety of issues, including the behavior of exchange rates, the market microstructure of international financial markets, international risk and portfolio management, and international financial integration.
TAFI was jointly founded by RSM Erasmus University (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) and Fordham University School of Business (New York City, U.S.) in 2003. Directors of the Institute are James R. Lothian, Distinguished Professor of Finance at Fordham Business School, Kees G. Koedijk, Professor of Financial Management at RSM Erasmus University, and Mathijs A. van Dijk, Associate Professor of Finance at RSM Erasmus University.
TAFI hosts a series of regular conferences on specific research themes in international finance. TAFI recurrently cooperates with The Frank J. Petrilli Center for Research in International Finance (CRIF) at Fordham University and with The Journal of International Money and Finance (JIMF). JIMF is the number one specialized journal in the areas of international monetary economics and international finance.
The first TAFI conference on “European Financial Markets after the Euro” was jointly organized with CRIF, JIMF, and the University of Rome Tor Vergata. The conference took place in Rome (Italy) in December 2003. The second TAFI conference on “Foreign Exchange Markets” was organized in cooperation with CRIF and JIMF and held in San Juan (Puerto Rico) in March 2005.
